Awake for One’s Job

Reb Naftali of Rupshitz would recount:[1]

In my young years, when I would wake up early to serve Hashem, the Yetzer Hara would come and tell me with a compassionate tone.

He would say, “Naftali! Why the haste? It’s still dark outside. The stars are sparkling up the night sky and it’s still so cold out! Sleep on a little longer!”

I would then scream at him, “Go away you hypocrite! You yourself have risen so early to do your job  and you’re telling me I should keep sleeping because it’s too early?!”
