The Money is Gone

R. Meir of Premishlan was once asked:

When we perform the Pesach Seder, we place marror on the ka’arah in commemoration of the servitude. Why do we not place some money there as well in commemoration of the wealth that they took with them upon leaving Egypt?

He answered:

The reason is because a remembrance of the bitterness remains, however, today, there is not even a remembrance of the money.
